NORTH BAY -- A couple of dozen people rallied outside of Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal MP Anthony Rota’s office Thursday evening in solidarity for the Western Canadian Indigenous battle against the Costal Gaslink pipeline project.
About 30 people were on hand and many of them were holding signs in support of the ongoing blockades and against the pipeline.
There were also several speeches about respecting Indigenous lands.
With new developments regarding the RCMP deciding to pull out of the land in B.C., supporters say it’s now down to project stakeholders to reach a compromise.
"What we want is for the pipeline company, Coastal Gaslink, to stop construction until there have been agreements between the Heredity Chiefs, the elected band councils and the two levels of government that are involved," said rally organizer Donna Sinclair.
"I have met with several of the key organizers and can respect where they are coming from. I also appreciate that they are arranging to present a statement to my office beforehand since the solidarity rally is taking place after business hours. This is a difficult situation for everyone. I welcome the opportunity to hear all points of view and a continuing national dialogue toward a peaceful resolution," said Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota to CTV News in a statement.
