NORTH BAY -- The North Bay Canada Post office is temporarily closed after an employee has tested presumptive positive for the novel coronavirus.

In a statement to CTV News, Canada Post says it was notified on Thursday from the city's hospital that the employee was tested.

Other employees who work at the Worthington Street East facility were contacted and told to stay home to await further direction.

The union representing post office employees says the worker's last day at the office was March 17.

The Crown corporation says the office has been thoroughly cleaned.

"We are putting the safety of our people and the community first, and will continue to work closely with the local health unit," said Canada Post in the statement.

Mail and parcels will not be delivered Friday in North Bay and in other communities served by this facility.

Regular mail delivery is scheduled to resume Monday, pending the direction from public health officials and in consultation with the post office's joint local health and safety committee.

"We are working with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit to provide any assistance and will continue to follow their direction to keep our people and the community safe," said Canada Post.
