Police in North Bay are searching for a suspect wanted in a stabbing that left a man with wounds on his face and head in the parking lot of city hall.

Officers were called to the scene at 200 McIntyre Street East around 4 p.m. Dec. 29 where they found the victim with lacerations, North Bay Police Service said in a news release Friday morning.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is underway and the suspect is described as "a male of medium to heavier build, with a salt and pepper goatee, wearing a black toque, camo winter coat, blue jeans, tan Timberland-like boots, and a carrying a backpack with large colourful lettering written 'Gymshark' vertically on the backpack."

Anyone with information about the incident or suspect(s) is asked to call police at 705-497-5555 – press 9 to speak with an officer -- or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.

"At this point we believe that the suspect and the victim do not know each other," Const. Merv Shantz told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.
