North Bay OPP charge suspect with spousal assault following seven-hour standoff
A barricaded man eventually gave themselves up in a community near North Bay on Sunday and has been charged with intimate partner violence.
The 45-year-old from Papineau-Cameron Township was arrested following an incident that began around 10:45 a.m. and ended after a seven-hour negotiation.
"The individual is now facing seven criminal charges," the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.
Police responded to a report of intimate partner violence on Richards Road and "safely removed the victim from the property and escorted them to a waiting ambulance," the OPP said.
"The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment."
The suspect barricaded themselves in "an out-building on a residential property," prompting the arrival of several specialized OPP units, including crisis negotiators.
"At approximately 6 p.m., the OPP arrested one person, who was then transferred to the North Bay OPP detachment," the release said.
