A barricaded man eventually gave themselves up in a community near North Bay on Sunday and has been charged with intimate partner violence.

The 45-year-old from Papineau-Cameron Township was arrested following an incident that began around 10:45 a.m. and ended after a seven-hour negotiation.

"The individual is now facing seven criminal charges," the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

Police responded to a report of intimate partner violence on Richards Road and "safely removed the victim from the property and escorted them to a waiting ambulance," the OPP said.

"The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment."

The suspect barricaded themselves in "an out-building on a residential property," prompting the arrival of several specialized OPP units, including crisis negotiators.

"At approximately 6 p.m., the OPP arrested one person, who was then transferred to the North Bay OPP detachment," the release said.

Charges include two counts of spousal assault causing bodily harm, spousal assault with a weapon, uttering death threats, and several weapons charges, including possessing a weapon when prohibited.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Monday.

"If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, you're not alone," police said.
