A lunchtime supervisors says she was fired by the Near North District School Board in North Bay for speaking out at a school board meeting.

Karen Matthews say she was let go because she made a presentation to the school board about its plan to close two of its schools.

Board Chair Jay Aspin says Matthews broke board bylaws that prohibit employees from making presentations.

Mathews has an 11-year-old son who would be affected by the potential closures, and says she presented as a concerned parent and not as an employee.

"Yesterday, I also got a notice that I was banned from all Near North School property. I can't attend any of the buildings or parking lots or anything that the boards owns, which prevents me from picking up my son from school if he's injured or sick at school," said Matthews.

Matthews says all she wants is her job back and an apology from the board.
