Emergency crews were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 after a two-vehicle crash, Ontario Provincial Police said in a social media post.

"A gold pickup truck with two occupants was struck by a silver automobile that immediately fled the scene and left their damaged licence plate within the debris," OPP said.

"Fortunately, no one was injured in the collision."

The driver of the silver vehicle that fled was found a short while later and charged with failing to yield to traffic on a highway, disobeying a sign and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

"Failing to remain at the scene of a collision you are involved in is a serious offence," OPP said.

"You are required to remain at or immediately return to the collision and render all possible assistance while providing the necessary information to all involved parties."

In addition to a fine, penalties for failing to remain at the scene can also include jail time, driver's licence suspension, demerit points and insurance increases under the Highway Traffic Act.
