North Bay decides to move forward with arena build process
North Bay city council is moving ahead to the tender phase for the proposed twin pad arena at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex with a budget of $60 million.
City council had approved it on Tuesday – until councillor Jamie Lowery declared a notice of reconsideration on renovating the West Ferris Arena which delayed the final vote on the new twin pad arena until the next meeting.
As a result, Mayor Peter Chirico has called for a special council meeting Thursday evening to allow the matter to move forward.
According to a city report, the RFP will be for a progressive design-build that will achieve substantial construction completion in 2025 and meet net zero carbon building requirements to unlock almost $26 million in federal funding.

City staff said they expect the bids will come back to council in the next few months.
