North Bay business sets up unofficial polling station to generate election talk
In the weeks leading up to the Sept. 20 federal election, polls are being conducted that gauge who will most likely be Canada’s next Prime Minister.
In North Bay, a downtown business is having fun with a local unofficial poll. The unofficial 'Main Street Polling Station' is tallying up results. People walk by and check an 'X' in the column of the candidate they plan to vote for.
The polling station is set up outside of Brainstorm Productions on Main Street East.
The board shows all local candidates vying for the seat in the Nipissing-Timiskaming riding. The store plans on providing official polling station information when it becomes available for those who choose to participate.
Business owner Gregory Gray said about 25 per cent of the people he sees downtown each daily don’t even know there’s an election campaign underway.
The business came up with the concept of generating some fun talk and debate leading up to voting day, as well as informing those unaware the election is only weeks away.
"Make sure you take the time to figure out where you go and vote -- and vote, because we really need to get our output and opinions out there for sure," said employee Kayla Snider.
The unofficial poll started last week and will be on display outside the store from Wednesday to Friday until election day.
