SUDBURY -- A 53-year-old woman from Corbeil, east of North Bay, has been fined for breaching the Quarantine Act.

In a news release, North Bay Ontario Provincial Police said they began an investigation after receiving complaints.

The woman returned to Canada on Nov. 29 from Rhode Island, NY. Police discovered she had violated quarantine conditions on seven different occasions during their mandatory two-week quarantine.

She was fined a total of $1,255.

Under the Act, individuals enter Canada from another country must quarantine for 14 days. Police conduct compliance checks to enforce the order.

Police said the legislation is in place to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect the public by mitigating the risk of exposure.

While under quarantine order, there is no exception to leave their residence until the 14 days are complete.

Any goods and services must be delivered during the quarantine.
