For the past four years, the City of Timmins has honoured those who unselfishly give back to the community: volunteers, Good Samaritans and social justice advocates.

The group behind the Timmins Human Rights Hall of Fame is looking to the community to add another deserving name to their wall.

Tucked away in the entrance to the Timmins Library, is a humble tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to giving back to their community.

"The people who have been nominated are just a few of the people who have done great things within the City of Timmins. They don't do it for the accolades. They don't do it for the pats on the back. They do it because they see a need." said Timmins City Councillor Andrew Marks.

Inductees include familiar faces, like Ed Ligocki of the Good Samaritan Inn and Mario Dussault of The Yo! Mobile, and individuals whose efforts have inspired change.

"We've nominated up to six individuals and groups that have made a difference when it comes to making our community more inclusive, when it comes to making our community a safer place, when it comes to making our community a better place for all residents." said Marks.

The wall is only one part of a larger program dedicated to celebrating human rights and diversity in Timmins.

"We typically get about 200 folks to the event, where we basically give out the awards, to the different categories that we have. Then we also have the school boards present some entertainment and it's usually a great evening of applause." said Tom Baby of the Timmins Multicultural Centre.

The event will highlight the latest wall of fame inductee, but first, the committee will have to make a choice.

"It often is a very tough decision. If we have numerous candidates available, we don't want to exclude anyone or value someone's work more than someone else, but we do like to highlight very good work of specific community members." said Kaylee Morissette of the Cochrane District Social Planning Council.

If you know someone who has made a career of giving back to the community, the group encourages you to submit their name.

The deadline for nominations is March 7th.
