Greater Sudbury Police Service has released more details into the incident that cost one pedestrian their life this week.

Police say shortly after 7:30 am on Wednesday, a man was seen walking in and out of traffic and acting in an erratic way on the Kingsway just past Third Avenue.

The man reportedly stepped out from the centre turning lane into the path of a white SUV travelling eastbound, which resulted in the vehicle striking the man.

Several extenuating circumstances made it difficult for him to be seen:

  • He was wearing dark clothing
  • Not located near an immediate crosswalk
  • Limited artificial lighting

Police say the man was then hit by two more vehicles in the eastbound lanes and that all vehicles stopped at the scene of the collision.

One of the drivers left the scene before police obtained his information. The GSPS would like this driver, described previously as approximately 50-years-old and driving a light-coloured SUV, to contact them so they can get a statement.

No charges will be laid in this incident.
