Nickel City Sound excited to return to live performing
After a hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the vocal group Nickel City Sound is back with a new live show Dec. 10.
The 40 women who make up the barbershop chorus are gearing up for their first holiday concert since the pandemic.
Co-director Jennifer Huss said there are pumped.
“We haven’t performed in front of a live audience in a very long time so we’re super excited to put on this show,” Huss said.
Co-director Martha Walli said it’s all about spreading joy through the Holiday season.
“This is joy to the world, this is our first Christmas concert since COVID,” said Walli.
“We’re really excited to be able to sing for the Sudbury community again. We’ve been missing that and we’ve been practising all of our songs to give a really good show for our community.”
The group is also celebrating its silver anniversary. They’ve been performing together for 25 years.
“We love to provide our gift for the community, that’s what’s so important about it,” said Walli.
“Harmony really resonates with a lot of people. We try to choose music that has meaning for everybody and it’s something special -- keeps you healthy, keeps you happy.”
Before their big show next week, CTV viewers will get to see and hear Nickel City Sound during the 74th CTV Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon this afternoon.
Their showcase will take place at the Lockerby Composite School on Dec. 10. A portion of ticket sales will go to support the Sudbury Food Bank.
Tickets can be purchased through the group's website.
