SUDBURY -- Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen had special footwear Monday when the Vikings faced the Chicago Bears.

Thielen's cleats honoured Alex Trebek, the Sudbury-born game show host who died Nov. 8 after a lengthy cancer battle. He wore them during the pregame warmup.

"We will miss you Alex," read one, with $19,000 beside it. Thielen wears No. 19.

One cleat had a photo of Trebek with a halo above his head, reading, "1940-2020."

The shoes were created by an artist named Mache, who specializes in doing artwork on shoes.

"For #MNF pregame tonight my guy @athielen19 will be honoring the legend Alex Trebek who passed last week," Mache tweeted Monday. "I feel like no matter where you were from, I feel like Jeopardy was a part of all of our lives in some way."

"Cool cleats for $2,000," tweeted the Vikings official Twitter account Nov. 16, just before the game.

In Sudbury, the city has created a virtual book of condolences for Trebek residents can sign before the end of the day Nov. 20.

It can be accessed here.

"All messages received will be sent to Mr. Trebek’s family on behalf of the community," the city said in a news release.
