NORTH BAY – A new study has found Canadians would like to be rewarded by their employer over the holiday season.

The study revealed there's a clear disconnect between Canadian employee and employer expectations when it comes to holiday rewards.

"Honestly, just like a nice thank you and pat on the back for everything you've done all year. It goes a long way," said one North Bay resident.

When employees were surveyed about what they would like their employer to offer them over the holidays, 54 per cent said they would like a bonus, but only 15 per cent of employed Canadians say they expect to receive one this year.

The study which is conducted in November for ADP Canada also revealed the most common reward given by employers was a holiday party, followed by holiday gifts and additional time off.

However, nearly a third of Canadians said they would like more time off offered. Followed by 23 per cent who would like to receive a gift and only 22 per cent said they'd like their employer to host a holiday party. 11 per cent indicated their preference was no holiday reward at all.

"I think more time off would be important for people and their families and also a Christmas party for the employees," commented another North Bay resident.

Charitable donations and activities ranked at the bottom of the list with only a few percent of Canadian employers planning to participate in a charitable activity for the holidays and only eight per cent of employees reporting being interested in one.
