SUDBURY -- The Rainbow District School Board is seeking the public's help in selecting a name and mascot for a new school in Chelmsford.

The kindergarten to Grade 12 school is opening this fall, and the board is hoping to get as much input as possible before deciding on a name.

Students, parents/guardians, alumni, and members of the community are invited to share their suggestions by filling out an online form that can be found here.

“This is an exciting time where students and stakeholders can make their mark on their community school,” education director Norm Blaseg is quoted as saying in the release. “All ideas are welcome.”

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School is being retrofitted to create a kindergarten to Grade 12 school, offering kindergarten to Grade 8 classes in English and French Immersion, and Grades 9 to 12 in English.

Chelmsford Public School will be consolidated into the single K-12 school as of Sept. 1.

"The school will also welcome Grade 7 and 8 students from Larchwood Public School, as well as students in the French immersion program from Levack Public School," a news release from the board Wednesday said.

The deadline for name and mascot submissions is June 26. For those who do not have access to a computer, suggestions may be shared by calling 705-674-3171.
