SUDBURY -- A one-kilometre stretch of the Junction Creek Trail is being outfitted with brand new LED street lamps, with the aim of making the area safer after dusk.

The lamps come with a price tag of $150,000, and could illuminating the trail as early as next week.

"Now we have the lighting, it will bring all the individuals and the residents back on to the trail, so it’s going to make it a safer place,” said Claude Charbonneau, of the Flour Mill Community Action Network.

Charbonneau said the new lamps represent just one of many projects designed to shift the local demographic.

“In the Flour Mill, we have a lot of young families that are moving in,” he said.

Ward 12 Coun. Joscelyne Landry-Altmann said both the Flour Mill CAN and the Louis Street Community Association collaborated to make the project a reality.
