SUDBURY – Recently, we told you about the Infant Food Bank in Sudbury and how it was struggling to provide services to people in the community.
Following the story, local residents responded in a big way and have helped the food bank get by for now.
"It actually really helped us get through that crunch when we had that significant increase in need in the community. We did not have the required supply's to meet that need so what that did was brought in that little bit extra that carried us through till this point," said Dedee Fliestra, Infant Food Bank.
Just in time for the launch of the 11th annual All We Need for Christmas campaign, encouraging local businesses to fill a crib, car seat or playpen with baby essential from not until the end of December.
"The supplies we get at Christmas time, that helps us know how much we can hand out throughout the year. So if the donations at Christmas are significant, then we know we are accurately able to meet the needs," explained Fliestra.
Councillor Joscelyne Landry-Altmann says she sees this need every day in her ward, and she sees how pride can get in the way of people asking for help. She wants people to know services are available.
"We try to do the best we can and this campaign is certainly there. So that's a great support. I encourage everyone to be very generous," said Altmann.
Since our earlier story on CTV News, the Infant Food Bank has been able to start accepting new clients once again. Currently, it serves between 700 and 800 families on a monthly basis.
