The 2nd national HIV Testing Day event will take place in over 70 communities across the country Thursday, June 27.

Réseau Access Network will host the event in Sudbury and this year’s theme is “Know Your Status.”

Officials say this year’s priority will be to reach the Canadians who are undiagnosed.

Testing in Sudbury will take place at the Réseau Access Network office at 111 Larch Street, Suite 400 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.

The AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area will hold testing at their office at 269 Main Street West, Suite 201 in North Bay from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

The Canadian AIDS Society says:

  • One in five Canadians living with HIV is unaware of their status, making transmission of the virus more likely
  • The year of the first testing even, more than 800 Canadians were tested.
  • Approximately 65,000 people in Canada have HIV.
  • According to the Public Health Agency of Canada’s 2017 Surveillance Report, there was a 17.1% increase in the number of new HIV infections in Canada between 2014 and 2017
