SUDBURY -- A 22-year-old man from Nairn-Hyman Township has been charged with several sex crimes following an investigation that began in May of this year.

Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police received a report May 8 from an Espanola resident about indecent images being shared on social media.

"Officers conducted a comprehensive investigation with the assistance of the Manitoulin OPP crime unit and with the North East Region crime unit," police said in a news release Tuesday.

The 22-year-old is charged with:

- Invitation to sexual touching to someone under age 16;

- Making, printing or possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution;

- Importing, distributing, selling or possession for the purpose of distribution or sale of child pornography;

- Two counts of possession of child pornography;

- Making sexually explicit material available to someone under age 16; and,

- Luring a person under 16 by means of telecommunication.

The accused has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing, police said.
