The multi-use sport courts in downtown North Bay officially opened Friday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The courts are open to the public to play basketball, floor hockey and soccer and have been in use quite a bit.

"The courts are being used 16-18 hours a day by kids of all ages," said Michael Mitchell, president of the North Bay Spartans Youth Basketball Club.

"There's lights that come on automatically with motion sensors. Older kids, young adults they're here at 11 o'clock, midnight, playing 'til the wee hours and it this location they aren't disturbing anyone."

The sport courts are just the beginning of the project on Oak Street. A brand new pump track for skateboarding will open in 2023.
