Motorist exceeded speed limit by 59 km/h, Sault police say

A 30-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with stunt driving after police made a traffic stop on Black Road on Thursday.
“Officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed,” Sault police said in a news release.
“The vehicle was locked on radar driving 119 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was charged with stunt driving.”
The suspect has received an automatic 30-day driver’s licence suspension, their vehicle was towed at their expense and impounded for 14 days.
The driver is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court, where they face a fine of up to $10,000, a mandatory driver’s licence suspension of as long as three years, and up to six months in jail.
If convicted, the driver gets six demerit points and must attend a mandatory driver improvement course or their licence will be cancelled.
“Driving is a privilege and violating the law can result in you losing that privilege,” police said.
