Most customers now have power in Manitoulin and area, Hwy. 6 now open

Power has been restored to all but 1,230 customers, Hydro One reported Tuesday afternoon. Power is now expected to be fully restored by 4:45 p.m.

And Highway 6 is also now open, the OPP said in a tweet late Tuesday afternoon.

A Hydro One power outage is affecting 5,644 customers in and around Manitoulin Island.

Hydro One said on its outage map Tuesday that the current estimate to restore power is 4:30 p.m.

The utility has yet to say what caused the outage, but photos circulating on social media point to a hydro pole fire near Birch Island.

Espanola OPP confirmed to CTV’s Alana Everson that there is an active bushfire along Highway 6 at Birch Island.

With the windy conditions, police said it's spreading quickly.

Highway 6 is currently closed in both directions with a detour at Old Village Road.
