It was a scary sight in northern Ontario Monday morning after an electric mobility scooter caught on fire.

Police and firefighters responded to the emergency call on Hutchinson Avenue in Elliot Lake, Ontario Provincial Police Const. Phil Young told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.

The equipment meltdown happened mid-morning and is a total loss, Young said.

"Luckily, no injuries," OPP said in a social media post about the incident.

A photo shared by police shows the scooter in flames on the road next to the curb and thick, black smoke billowing into the air.

The cause of the fire is not known.
