SUDBURY -- A class at a Timmins French Catholic elementary school is in isolation after a confirmed case of COVID-19.

The Conseil scolaire catholique de district de grandes rivieres said on its website one class in Ecole Catholic Louis-Rheaume is affected and the school is still open.

This marks the first confirmed COVID-19 case in a northeastern Ontario school.

As of Tuesday morning, there are three active cases in the Cochrane District, two of which involve residents currently outside the region. The only active case in Timmins involves someone between the ages of 20 and 39 who was tested on Oct. 1. Porcupine Health Unit is still investigating the point of exposure.

More details to come, check back for updates.
