In just over a month, the 11th annual RBC Hike for Hospice takes place in Sudbury.

The event is set for May 6th at Bell Park on the Jim Gordon Boardwalk.

This year's goal is to raise $150,000 to be used in the day-to-day operations of the Maison Mcculloch Hospice.

Organizers call it an important aspect of what they can do as caregivers.

Gerry Lougheed Jr. is the board chair of the Maison McCulloch Hospice.

"It's not a place about dying. It's a place about living your last days with quality, with dignity and on your own terms. A hospice is enormously important. In the last nine years, over 1,300 people have spent their last days at the hospice, showing the great need in our community." said Lougheed.

Scott Sonder is the Regional Vice President of sponsor RBC.

"We're at over a million dollars in helping raise funds towards the operation of the hospice. It’s one of our biggest community events and it involves over 50 staff volunteering at the event and it’s just a great way for us to give back to the community." said Sonder.

Prior to the walk, students at Churchill Public School in Sudbury will hold their own hike May 4th, with proceeds going to the hospice.
