SUDBURY -- Rainbow District School Board confirmed on Friday a student at Northeastern Elementary School in Garson has tested positive for COVID-19.

It is the third Sudbury area school with a confirmed case according to the school board's website.

There are two students with the disease at Lasalle Secondary School and the three cases at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary have been resolved.

"At this time, one class has been asked to self-isolate to and including Nov. 26," said Norm Blaseg, director of education for Rainbow District School Board, in a Nov. 13 letter to parents and guardians. "Students on one morning run of route NW524 as well as one afternoon run of route N518 have also been asked to self-isolate. The affected students, their parents/guardians and relevant bus drivers have been notified."

This comes after 10 straight days of newly confirmed cases in the Sudbury area.

As of Thursday night, there are 66 active cases of COVID-19 within the Sudbury District, with a majority of cases in the City of Greater Sudbury.

So far, the area is still in the Green – Prevent level of Ontario's COVID alert system, with no additional restrictions being imposed at this time.
