Sudbury driver charged in fatal June collision

A 43-year-old from the Greater Sudbury community of Chelmsford has been charged in connection with a fatal collision that took place near Coniston on June 18.

Nipissing Ontario Provincial Police responded to the emergency call at 12:30 a.m. on Highway 17 and arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle crash.

“Both drivers of the vehicles were transported to the local hospital, by Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services,” police said in a news release Thursday.

“A person 65 years of age, from Wahnapitae, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The driver from Chelmsford has been charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 5 in Sudbury.
