Second COVID-related death in Nipissing this week
As the number of COVID-19 cases keeps dropping in most of the province, the Nipissing-Parry Sound area is seeing a slight increase in new cases and has recorded its eighth death related to the disease.
Another COVID-related fatality has been recorded in the Nipissing District, the seventh for the district and eighth within the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit service area. It was announced on the health unit's website in the daily update on the case status and no other details were provided.
The health unit decided last week it would stop sending out news releases when someone dies from COVID-related causes.
Six new infections were confirmed on Thursday and six previous cases were resolved, so the active case count did not change.
There are currently 16 active COVID-19 infections, one in Parry Sound while the 15 others are in the Nipissing District.
Since the pandemic began there have been a total of 628 infections among residents, with 604 cases resolved. Of those 448 were in Nipissing and 180 in Parry Sound.
Vaccinations are continuing with 76.1 per cent of the eligible adults having received at least one dose of the vaccine and 59.16 per cent are fully vaccinated.
A walk-in clinic is being held in North Bay at Memorial Gardens from 3 to 7 p.m. with approximately 450 doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine is available. Residents ages 12 and older are eligible for their second dose as long as 28 days have passed since the first vaccination. A health card or other form of identification is required for the vaccination.
