Ontario's Liberal government is promising to spend $2.1 billion over the next four years to "rebuild" the mental health system.

"There's no health care without mental health care, so we have a real responsibility to step up to that reality. Everyone in Ontario, no matter where they live, should have access to the mental health care that they need, when and where they need it." said Premier Kathleen Wynne.

Premier Wynne and Health Minister Dr. Helena Jaczek made the announcement Wednesday morning.

The Premier says the funding will make services more accessible and ensure people can find treatment through a local doctor's office, school or community-based organization.

Over the next year, more than 12,000 more young people will be able to access community-based services, such as therapy and counselling, and that number that will grow to about 46,000 in three years’ time.
