It's been three days since the new laws regarding drunk driving and roadside testing came into effect and Ontario Provincial Police say the 'Don’t Drink and Drive' message is more important now than ever.

OPP say they've laid 400 impaired driving charges this year.

The latest, was a 42-year-old Timmins woman, who was stopped in the North Bay area.

Officers say when she was pulled over, she had open containers of liquor in her car.

“We are still seeing it. We're hoping that this tool, the mandatory alcohol screening, will give us the ability to capture those people that normally wouldn't display impaired signs, but are still consuming alcohol prior to driving. So, the message is very clear, zero alcohol is where we need to be.” said OPP inspector Scott Hlady.

OPP constable Shona Camirand says one demographic in particular is responsible for the highest rates of impaired driving in the North Bay area.

“It's 2018; we shouldn't still be seeing so much drinking and driving. The highest age range we have in North Bay detachment this year is males ages 20 to 29. So, we really need to target that age group.” said Camirand.
