One person has been charged after a suspect stole a vehicle in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, then drove it to Ontario Provincial Police to discuss another matter.

Manitoulin OPP was alerted around 6 p.m. June 26 that someone had stolen a vehicle from Castle Street in the community.

“Police made attempts to locate the vehicle, but were unsuccessful,” the OPP said in a news release Thursday.

“Later that evening, the stolen vehicle entered the OPP detachment parking lot as the driver wanted to speak with police for an unrelated matter. The driver was subsequently arrested.”

The 47-year-old suspect from Spanish is charged with driving while suspended, violating probation, motor vehicle theft and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused was held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Sudbury Bail Court sometime on Thursday.
