Police in northern Ont. attacked by person they found lying in the street

Ontario Provincial Police responding to a disturbance in West Nipissing this week discovered a conscious person lying in the street.

“While assisting the individual, they became assaultive and began uttering threats during the investigation,” the OPP said in a news release.

The incident took place on King Street around 7:30 pm. April 24.

A 36-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance, uttering threats, assault to resist arrest, disarming a police officer and violating parole conditions.

The accused was held for bail court and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Friday in North Bay.
