NORTH BAY – New employment numbers released on October 11 suggest there's been plenty of job growth in Ontario lately.
As Ontario's Economic Development Minister, Vic Fedeli is pleased with the new numbers.
He says there were over 41,000 new jobs in September, adding that the upward trend in employment continues under the PC government.
"The majority of those not only were full-time jobs, they were also private-sector jobs. These make a real great thrust for the Province of Ontario," said Fedeli.
At the Northgate Shopping Centre in North Bay, a job fair has employees agreeing, saying hundreds of jobs are currently open in northern Ontario.
"There are a lot of employers out there looking to fill positions, and there are a lot of people looking for jobs. Always be prepared when you hand in the resume to make sure you're ready to answer a question about that business," said Tammy Serran, Yes Employment Program Manager.
According to one attendant of the job fair, "some jobs have been created, but some jobs are being shut down for different reasons."
"I have been in the same job for many years, and North Bay is horrible for jobs. Anything that is not Wendy's or McDonald's, or something like that, minimum wage," said another attendant.
As reported by Statistics Canada, Ontario's unemployment is at just over 5% and leads the continent in the number of jobs created based on foreign investment.
