Northern Ont. teen facing impaired driving charges
A local teen is facing several impaired driving-related charges following a traffic stop on Lakeshore Drive in New Liskeard on Friday.
On June 28 just after 10:45 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment were conducting a RIDE program on the roadway, police said in a news release.
“A vehicle approached the checkpoint, and it was determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance,” said police.
“The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for an evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert.”
As a result of the investigation, the 18-year-old male driver was charged with impaired driving, driving with cannabis readily available and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis in open packaging.
The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days by police and the accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
“Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police,” said police.
