A police officer in North Bay was injured Friday morning during an attempt to arrest the driver of a stolen vehicle.

The officer received minor injuries and was later released from hospital.

The incident took place at 11:30 a.m. when police spotted a stolen vehicle in a parking lot on Memorial Drive.

“When the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect attempted to flee and struck the officer,” police said in a news release.

“Another officer pursued the vehicle for a short distance on Memorial Drive before the pursuit was terminated by a supervisor for public safety reasons.”

The vehicle was located later in another area of North Bay and after a short foot pursuit, a suspect was arrested.

“A 22-year-old Brampton man is now in police custody,” police said.

“The investigation is continuing, and further details will be made available in the coming days. North Bay Police Service would like to thank bystanders that assisted the officers at the scene.”
