SUDBURY -- The Ontario Provincial Police in East Algoma have arrested a 55-year-old Blind River man for trying to contact the victim he is charged with sexually assaulting 30 years ago.

The charged were laid July 29, when police were called to a residence in Blind River where the man was drunk and screaming. During the investigation, it was revealed the assault had taken place decades earlier.

The man was charged with sexual interference and sexual assault of someone under the age of 16.

He was also charged with criminal harassment and is accused of repeatedly following, repeatedly communicating with, watching and besetting, and threatening conduct toward the victim, as well as causing a disturbance.

"The next day, on July 30, the male contacted the victim indirectly," police said. "As a result on Aug.1, the male was located and arrested."

He is now also charged with fail to comply with his release conditions and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 2 when he was remanded into custody.
