SUDBURY -- The possibility of freezing rain this evening and overnight has prompted Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for some communities in northeastern Ontario.

Affected areas include North Bay, West Nipissing, Kirkland Lake, Englehart, Temiskaming Shores and Temagami

"Freezing rain possible tonight and Thursday morning," Environment Canada said in a news release.

"Patchy freezing drizzle is forecast through this evening followed by a risk of freezing rain beginning near midnight or early Thursday morning."

If freezing rain does develop, ice accumulations may be up to two millimeters in some locales. Freezing rain is expected to end Thursday morning.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery," the release said. "Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas."
