SUDBURY -- Katrina Francella spent her Saturday morning dropping off surprise gift baskets to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and youth allies in Sault Ste. Marie.

"In hopes to brighten their days," said Francella.

Francella runs Rainbow Klub. A safe space for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Jake Howson has been attending the club for two years.

"It’s like the only safe space for LGBT youth in the city and I miss how it doesn’t happen every Friday," said Howson.

The club hasn’t been open since the start of the pandemic.

Francella says some of the youth who regularly attend it are struggling during the pandemic.

So she wanted to surprise them with a gift basket.

"I wanted to remind them that there are people who love and support them and when we can see each other again, will get right back into it and share our love again," said Francella.

This week, Francella announced on Facebook that she wanted to do something for the community and started up a fundraiser.

In four days, $600 was raised to buy goodies and create 17 gift baskets.

This is a developing story.  More to come.
