Police and fire officials in North Bay are investigating what they call a deliberately-set fire Friday morning on Lakeshore Drive.

The home for special needs is run by Nipissing Mental Health and Support Services.

Fire crews were on scene within four minutes.

Firefighters encountered significant smoke and fire on arrival.

No one was injured, as all residents were evacuated safely.

Randy Vezina is the Fire Prevention and Public Education Officer for North Bay Fire and Emergency Services.

“There was smoke visible at the rear, the advance-and-attack line up to a second-floor bedroom; they put the fire down right away. By then police were also on scene and police made an arrest.” said Vezina.

North Bay police have charged a 53-year-old man with arson.
