If you felt the earth move in the Kirkland Lake area Wednesday night, it wasn’t your imagination.

Earthquake Canada is confirming that seismic activity did take place late Wednesday night in the Kirkland Lake area.

Officials say it happened at 11:16 pm about two kilometres west- southwest of the town.

They say it registered 3.2 in magnitude.

While there's been no confirmation, officials believe the activity is mining related.

Resident Jeff Wilkinson says he heard a loud bang, followed by some shaking of his apartment building.

He says that was a lot of chatter on Facebook about the incident from people all over town.

"As you may know we have had some fatal rockbursts in this area, so we're all sort of wondering whether it has happened again." said Wilkinson.
