SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police have identified the person found dead in a wooded area near Sudbury's South End on Dec. 8 as a local woman who went missing at the end of November.

The body of 40-year-old Amanda Oake, of Valley East, was found off Wavy Lake Road near Tilton Lake Road in Eden Township, just outside the City of Greater Sudbury.

"Officers arrived on scene and confirmed that the adult woman was deceased," Sudbury police said in a news release Wednesday afternoon. "Due to the location where the body was found, the Ontario Provincial Police initiated an investigation into the death."

Sudbury police said Oake was last seen Nov. 28.

An autopsy was performed in Sudbury by the Officer of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service on Dec. 14.

The investigation is continuing under the Ontario Provincial Police's Criminal Investigation Branch.

No word on whether or not foul play is suspected.

A funeral is planned for the mother of three and grandmother of two at 3 p.m. on Friday at Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home. Friends may gather at 1 p.m., prior to the ceremony. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendence is limited, so the service will be livestreamed online here. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association instead of flowers.
