An experienced hiker from Hamilton, Ont. who got lost in Killarney Provincial Park has been found safe, Ontario Provincial Police said Friday.

"The emergency response team have located and escorted the missing hiker out, with no medical concerns," the OPP said in a news release.

The man had gone on a four-day hiking trip in the 645-square-kilometre park south of Sudbury and was scheduled to return Oct. 25.

Crews were dispatched to the area when he was reported missing to police shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

"The emergency response team, canine unit of the OPP, along with park wardens conducted a search that evening without locating the missing hiker," OPP said.

Maj. Matthew Strong of Canadian Armed Forces told CTV News in a phone interview Friday morning that  the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was asked to assist Thursday, but was unable to due to weather.

After the rescue, police reminded residents that the 'what3words' app is offered for free by both Android and Apple devices to download.

"The app labels every three squared metres with a unique three-word location string which can be converted into latitude and longitude coordinates for entry into the Computer Aided Dispatch system in use at the OPP Provincial Communication Centre," police said.
