Medicinal marijuana appears to be a booming business in Timmins.

A company called “Bodystream Medical Marijuana” has been open in the city for six months, and is one of several locations the company has across the north.  It's providing pot prescriptions to local patients from government-certified sources in Ontario.

"Once they're registered and we do the education, we put them with a licensed producer, so there is over 91 in Canada right now, 28 of which are in Ontario which is fantastic." said Sarah Cadorette of Bodystream.

Although the Timmins location is the newest, business is already brisk.

"It's been actually really, really busy, we have a range of clients aging from you know, under 25 to, my oldest patient I believe is 92 years old, so yeah, it is beneficial for all age groups." said Sue Dechatels from the Timmins Bodystream operation.

We asked people in Timmins if they were aware and comfortable with the idea of a pot store?

Here’s what they told us:

"I believe it's very positive thing, marijuana has been proven to have medicinal uses for people with mostly aches, pains and high end cancer patients have seen the benefit of using it."

"No, not really...just the fact that you know it’s drugs.”

Despite mixed reactions, fully legalized marijuana is on its way and medicinal suppliers like Bodystream say it won't create competition.

The group says it's had nothing but positive feedback from the community, saying the stigma surrounding pot is beginning to change, with more and more Canadians beginning to understand the medical benefits.
