SUDBURY -- Leo Jobin, mayor of the Township of Chisholm, is resigning, the community said in a news release Wednesday.

“It is time for me to leave Council and focus on my health” Jobin said during the Sept. 22, council meeting.

Jobin was appointed to council Nov. 26, 2002, and served until 2006. He then came back to council in 2009 and was appointed mayor in January 2010.

"To recognize his tenure, loyalty and dedication to the Township of Chisholm, council voted to name the replacement bridge on River Road the 'Leo Jobin Bridge' in 2019," the release said.

“It has sincerely been an honour and a pleasure working alongside Mayor Jobin," said Coun. Gail Degagne in the release. "Leo brought so much knowledge about the Township of Chisholm to each meeting and always acted in the best interest of the people of Chisholm, putting their needs at the heart of every decision made. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and pleasant nature will be truly missed. I wish Leo all the best.”

Jobin attended his final council meeting on Oct. 27. At the Nov. 10 meeting, the mayor’s seat will be declared vacant and the current council can put motions forward for his replacement.

“I had great pleasure working with everyone," Jobin said. "We are fortunate for the councillors we have and the future looks good for Chisholm. The new chief administrative officer and operations superintendent positions are working out well and I feel I am leaving at a time with everything in good hands.”
