Update:

The Town of Mattawa and Ontario Provincial Police are asking people to refrain from boating in the Mattawa area.

There is fear that wakes created by boats will erode the berm that has been built to hold back flood waters.

A bit of relief for people in Mattawa dealing with rising water, as the water in the Ottawa River did not go up much more on the weekend.

In the town of 1,900, officials say despite declaring a state of emergency nearly a week ago, flooding levels are holding, but they expect a rise in river levels this week.

20 homes have been evacuated and Mattawa Mayor Dean Backer says officials are having structural issues with one of the first buildings that were evacuated, and it’s currently being assessed.

He also adds water did recede a few inches over Saturday night into Sunday.
