SUDBURY -- A 57-year-old chef from Manitoulin Island has won $1 million in the lottery.

Howard Debassige from M'Chigeeng First Nation says he can realize his dreams after winning one of the $1 million Maxmillions prizes in the Feb. 25 Lotto Max draw.

"I was very shocked," said Debassige upon discovering his win after checking his lottery ticket at a pharmacy ticket checker. "It feels good to win the lottery."

He plans to travel, pay bills and save the remainder of his winnings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Barb’s Kiosk on Centre Street in Espanola.
