Early Thursday morning, about 15,800 electricity customers on Manitoulin Island were without power, which prompted school closures for the area.

Hydro One says there was a power line problem at one of its towers and that powerelectricityhas been restored to most of the island as of noon.

Mayor, Al McNevin, tells us the power is back on in Little Current, but the areas that are still affected are:

  • Northeastern part of the island, south of Little Current
  • Wikwemikong
  • Mindemoya

Crews have been dispatched and power should be fully restored by 3:45 pm.
