Man who committed four murders in the Sault found with rifle, revolver, police say
Bobbie Halleart, the man who shot and killed his three children and a 41-year-old woman Oct. 23 in the Sault, was found with a .38 calibre revolver and a rifle, police said Thursday.
The bodies of the children -- ages six, seven and 12 -- were found in the second home on Second Line East along with Hallaert, 44, who was found deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He also shot and wounded a 45-year-old woman.
“During the search and forensic analysis of the Second Line East residence, officers seized two firearms,” police said in a news release.
“Analysis determined one is an SKS rifle and the other is a .38 calibre revolver.”
Police are still investigating how the firearms were acquired.
“Investigation has determined the offender … had a possession acquisition licence (PAL) holder from 2008-2014, but did not have a PAL since that time,” police said.
“A valid PAL is required to possess and/or acquire firearms in Canada.”
In a previous investigation in January 2020, Sault police seized two firearms the offender had access to at the time.
“The firearms were not involved in the disturbance call,” police said.
“Since the seizure, those firearms have been, and remain, safely in the custody of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.”
