SUDBURY -- At approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 24, officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) responded to call of a man brandishing weapons and threatening residents on Bruce Avenue.

According to police, the man appeared to be intoxicated and was knocking on doors threatening residents in the area. 

At one point, the man attempted to gain entry to the residences before police arrived on scene.

The suspect had several weapons that officers say were readily available to him but would not confirm if this was a firearm related incident.

The incident took place over a three-hour period with up to eight police vehicles attending the scene.

GSPS Tactical Unit was deployed and officers were able to resolve the situation peacefully.

While police did not dislcose details regarding the type of weapons, residents later reported that a rifle was involved and say this is not the first time an incident involving threats made with a firearm have occurred.

The man was taken into custody and has been charged with multiple offences including:

  • Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence


The man was held for a bail hearing this morning.

Police are not releasing any other information at this time.
