Man charged with attempted murder following incident in downtown Sudbury
A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a victim was attacked with a blunt object Wednesday evening in downtown Sudbury.
Police were called around 5:15 p.m. to respond to the incident, which took place on Elm Street.
“Information provided was that an individual could be heard yelling for someone to call police from inside a residential unit,” Sudbury police said in a news release Thursday morning.
“Officers arrived on scene and located an individual outside the residence who was believed to be involved in the incident. Officers made entry into the unit to ensure the safety of those who might be inside.”
Once inside, officers found a 59-year-old man who had “sustained serious, life-threatening injuries from what is believed to be a blunt object,” police said.
He was taken to hospital by paramedics and remains in critical condition.
“Based on the investigation, officers believe that the individual located outside the residence was responsible for the attack and quickly placed the individual under arrest,” the release said.
Charges include attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The suspect will be in bail court sometime today.
